MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTION NC II – TESDA COURSE MODULE

The TESDA Course in MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTION NC II consists of competencies that a person must achieve to transcribe dictated recordings made by physician and other health care professionals and transcribe them into medical reports.

This Qualification is packaged from the competency map of the Information and Communication Technology Industry (Service sector)

TRAINEE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Trainees or students wishing to enroll in MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTION NC II Course should possess the following requirements:

can communicate either oral and written;
must be physically and mentally fit
with good moral character; and
must pass the trainability/aptitude test.

- Clarifications are sought from references, if necessary.

UNIT TITLE : PRODUCE TEXT FROM AUDIO TRANSCRIPTION

This unit covers the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to transcribe audio files and produce accurate texts from the transcriptions.

Prepare for audio transcription
- Client requirements relating to style, presentation and storage of technology are identified prior to commencing the task.
- Equipment and materials needed for transcription are obtained and checked for correct operation and safety.
- Requirement of the texts are clarified with the superior.
Transcribe audio file
- Text is produced from transcription with the required accuracy.
- Audio transcription reflected the intended meaning of the author/physician.
- The meaning of unclear speech is predicted from the context of the dictation.
- Meaning and spelling and technical terms are clarified to ensure accuracy of the text.
- Text is produced within designated timelines.
- Transcription is self-checked for accuracy.
Edit and revise text
- Final text is self-checked for accuracy
- Grammar and syntax are appropriate for the intended purpose.
- Text is revised, formatted, labeled, stored, and printed in accordance with clients’ requirements.

This unit covers the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values needed to apply quality standards in the workplace. The unit also includes the application of relevant safety procedures and regulations, organization procedures and customer requirements.

- Work instruction is obtained and work is carried out in accordance with standard operating procedures.
- Received materials are checked against workplace standards and specifications.
- Faulty materials related to work are identified and isolated.

Physiology – the branch of biology concerned with the functions of living things.
Protocol – a set of rules and procedures for the control of communication in a communications network.
